Kevin Baker has served as a United Methodist pastor for the past 15 years. He is currently pastor of Reconciliation United Methodist Church in Durham, N.C. Born in Oklahoma City, OK, he spent his early years living in different places as the son of a Nazarene pastor. He returned to Oklahoma City during his high school years and attended undergraduate school there at Southern Nazarene University where he met his wife Denise.

Kevin has an M.Div from Duke Divinity School. Upon graduation he served three and a half years at the Creswell UMC Charge in eastern NC. During his pastorate in Creswell, NC, he served as the Vice-President of the Human Relations Council and taught courses on racism and race relations. It was there that he began to cultivate what would become a lifetime commitment to multicultural, multiracial ministry.

In 1997, he was one of two founding pastors (one Anglo and the other African American) appointed to help start a new, multicultural and bilingual congregation in Durham where he currently continues to serve as pastor. In addition to his work as a pastor, Kevin is a teaching assistant at Duke Divinity School and is seeking to spearhead a new ministry in Durham to aid future pastors and current practitioners of multicultural ministry from a variety of local contexts.

Kevin has written for the Daily Bible Studies (UM Publishing House), The Christian Century, was a former columnist for the North Carolina Christian Advocate, and also wrote the Hail the Heaven Born, the Advent 2007 study in Scriptures for the Church Seasons by Abingdon Press. He enjoys reading, writing, blogging, and playing basketball. He and his wife, Denise, have three children: Sarah, Zachary, and Rachel.
