Bio

Andrew is a pastor in The United Methodist Church. He is currently working on a Doctor of Theology degree at Duke University Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina, where he focuses on John Wesley, early Methodism, and Wesleyan theology.

In addition to his blog at www.genxrising.com, Andrew also writes the bi-weekly "Gen-X Rising" column for The United Methodist Reporter, which has won the Award of Excellence by the Associated Church Press. Andrew's writing in the Reporter focuses on issues of faith, community, and the church, particularly as they relate to Generation X'ers (those born between 1964 and 1982). He is interested in helping the church reclaim a deep sense of its identity as the people of God.

More recently, Andrew has begun writing a regular column in the Covenant Discipleship Quarterly, a publication that serves as a resource for people who are involved in the ministry of Covenant Discipleship groups. CD groups are a type of small group that seeks to nurture the kind of accountable discipleship that was a feature of the early Methodist class meeting.

Andrew currently serves as the pastor of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Henderson, NC. He loves the preaching, teaching, and pastoral care that make up his ministry in this small membership, rural church.

Originally from Arkansas, Andrew is married to the former Emily Austin. They are the proud parents of two housecats named Ruthie and Lulu.
